Gophers

There are many species and subspecies of gophers. They are widely spread throughout the United States including California. Gophers are small, stocky rodents, the fur is soft and fine in shades of brown. They have small ears and eyes on the flattened head. There are no federal regulations protecting gophers.
The main economic liability of gophers (also known as pocket gophers) is their destruction of plants of all kinds and their burrowing activities. Gophers are strictly vegetarians and much of their lives is spent in underground burrows that can wind over a good part of an acre. Several control techniques may be employed for gopher control including repellents, traps or baiting depending upon the individual site characteristics.
